No matter who you are, osteopathic therapy will help you thrive. Our therapists have worked with Olympic athletes and grandmothers, workaholics and newborns . . . with people just like you.
No matter what your condition, osteopathic therapy can clear up your symptoms and their cause. Our therapists have the training and experience to treat you from head to toe. We deal with everything from concussions to bunions, childhood disorders to sports injuries, occasional digestive problems to chronic pain.
Getting started is as easy as 1, 2, 3 – We listen. We treat. You heal.
Step 1: We listen.
The first time we meet you, we want to hear from you. We use intake forms, as do most clinics, but ours are very short. We’re much more interested in conversation, in hearing the details from you directly. Working almost like detectives, we gather as much information – as many clues – as possible.
We ask a lot of questions about your injury or illness, how it got started, and how it’s affecting your life now. This will help us understand what kind of treatment would serve you best. If you’d like to see them in advance, this is a list of the kind of questions we will ask.
After we talk about your situation, our therapists will have you do some gentle movements. We will use our hands to feel for any restrictions. Osteopathic therapists have been trained to have “listening hands.” We can understand a lot about your health just by feeling the rhythms of your body through our hands.
In this first hour-long session, you can expect about 20 minutes of tailored treatment after the intake conversation and our hands-on assessment.
Afterwards, we’ll discuss how it felt to you, and we will outline how we expect to be able to help you over time. All our therapists have been trained to understand the way the body heals. We will be able to give you a time frame for recovery and come up with a plan that suits you.
The initial assessment costs:
- Adult first visit (60 minutes): $150
- Child first visit (45 minutes): $115
Step 2: We treat.
The treatment is never the same for any two people. The treatment we suggest for you will be specifically suited to your specific needs. Our training and experience allows each therapist to determine what kind of hands-on work your body will respond to best. We each have a range of different techniques available to us, and we each use our hands in slightly different ways.
Check out our therapists’ biographies to choose the person with whom you’d like to work. Or contact us and ask our receptionist for a recommendation. All our therapists are registered with the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists (AAOMT).
We work as a team: You are welcome to change therapists to suit your needs or your schedule without needing another assessment.
On average, you will see your therapist four to eight times over a period of two to three months. This will allow us to address both the obvious and the hidden causes that have stopped you from being well. If you have a chronic condition, we may need to see you up to ten or twenty times.
We also understand the limit of our capabilities. You can rely on us to be honest with you about the possibilities and limitations of what we can do with your particular condition. If need be, we can refer you to other excellent doctors and health care practitioners.
Each follow-up treatment will last between 25 and 45 minutes, depending on what your needs require. The duration of your appointments will depend on the complexity of your case. Some people take a little more or a little less time. Osteopathic therapy is different from other therapies: more is not necessarily better.
The cost of follow-up treatments:
- Adult follow-up (25 to 35 minutes): $90
- Adult follow-up (40 to 45 minutes): $115
- Child follow-up (25 to 35 minutes): $90
- Child follow-up (40 to 45 minutes): $115
Step 3: You heal.
Osteopathic therapy reconnects you to health. Many people think that healing is done to you. It is not. Healing is facilitated. Your body is hard-wired to return to health.
Osteopathic therapists help to generate the conditions that allow you to return to health. We remove obstacles and unravel places of tension. We understand the body’s interrelated parts and the dynamic relationship between them. We see the connection between a stiff hip and a sore shoulder, a sore knee and tightness in the lower back.
More than that, we understand that recovery may require both a course of treatment and lifestyle changes. We can explain how stress affects your ability to heal and discuss ways to reduce your stress. We can support you in making practical, healthy choices in diet and exercise that will fit into your life.
We look at you as a whole person, and it is the whole person that we work to heal. If you’d like to see what other patients have to say about our treatments, please see our testimonials. To learn more about the real-life experiences of the patients whom we have helped, see our patient stories.
